The Classic Stages Workshop led by Dan Hodge was such a great journey for me even for my second time! I recommend it highly to performers of any age or experience! It is comparable to the training I received at the British American Drama Academy 20 years ago in Oxford, UK with highly trained British actors! I will be returning again and again to get the experience of applying tools for Speaking Shakespeare! Dan Hodge is a wonderful teacher!"

Train in Classical Performance with the PAC

Classic Stages
Our approach to classical acting is practical and immersive. If you’ve seen a PAC show, you know what to expect: immediacy of language and thought; and the pursuit of deep human motivation inspired directly by the text. Whether you’re a novice or professional, we’ll empower you to speak – and hear – classical verse with radical practicality and emotional depth.

Come into the room with PAC Co-Founder Dan Hodge to explore the tools and techniques that make our approach to classical language so dynamic and unique.  Training with immersive exploration will bring fresh insight into how one first approaches classical text and how to find the humanity and specificity within the language. Fun, thought provoking and challenging, this workshop makes room for the novice and experienced actor alike.
SPRING 2020 SESSION - Cancelled
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our Spring 2020 Classic Stages session is cancelled. Please keep your eyes on this space for updates regarding future offerings. In the meantime, stay healthy and read some classics!

Feedback

"I had a fantastic experience working with Dan Hodge in PAC’s Classic Stages Weekend Intensive. In the past, I’ve felt pretty bogged down by the “rules”, or the “right way” of performing Shakespeare. This class offered me a wide array of tools to explore all of the opportunities Shakespeare’s text has to offer, while also giving me permission to pick and choose what resonated with me the most. Dan’s approach cultivates clarity and specificity in a way that empowers the performer to nurture their unique voice. I highly recommend this class to anyone, whether you’re new to Shakespeare, or an old hand, looking for inspiration." - Vanessa Sterling (Spring 2019 session)
"As an avid fan and supporter of classic theater who has never received any acting training, Classic Stages provided me with a window into the world of the artists who bring to life the shows that I love so dearly, as well as a taste of the hard work that goes into every line I hear spoken from the stage.  What a delectable and rare treat to try out the beautiful language of Shakespeare with my own voice, and to watch the learning process of both new and experienced actors who star in shows in the Philadelphia area.  I felt as though I had stumbled into a rehearsal and was welcomed behind the scenes to learn side by side with people whose artistic talents I greatly admire.  This course enriched my appreciation of the theater that I attend and gifted me with a new-found perspective on the choices that actors, directors, and other theater artists make.  If you love theater, try Classic Stages.  Even if you are a newbie like me, you will find that all experience levels are truly welcomed, appreciated, and celebrated.  You will leave with a greater understanding of the theater, classic texts, and — most importantly — your own amazing voice."  - Paige Willan, Esq.
