Classic Slam! is an in-person, jazz influenced, ONE NIGHT ONLY event celebrating the dynamic voices of historic black poets of the past and inspirational
black poets of today! Five local Black Artists will bless the stage with classical text written by historic Black Poets from the late 18th century to 1950s and share their own original work. This 90-minute poetry slam with live music will take place at The Modern Republic, a vibrant and funky vintage furniture shop specializing in mid-century modern designs, and will both honor the history of Black literature, Black Joy as well as continue the stories of Black Artists.
